Randall County sits in the Texas Panhandle, with its county seat in Canyon and portions of Amarillo falling within its borders. The county runs a multi-tiered court system that includes three district courts, a constitutional county court, two county courts at law, justice courts, and several municipal courts. Depending on where a case originated, records from felony files and civil judgments to family law decrees and probate filings are held by either the District Clerk or the County Clerk. Knowing which office has what you need is the first step to a successful search.

TexasStateCourts.us offers a statewide overview of the judiciary and can help you identify court structures and resources across Texas counties. For Randall County specifically, the main online search tool is the Randall County Judicial Records portal, which covers criminal, civil, family, and probate matters. The Randall County Clerk's self-service site gives you separate access to recorded documents like deeds, liens, and marriage records that the County Clerk maintains.

How to Look Up a Court Case in Randall County?

Are Court Records Public in Randall County?

Court records in Randall County are generally open to public inspection under the Texas Public Information Act (Texas Government Code, Chapter 552). The Act creates a broad presumption of openness for government records — including court documents — and requires records custodians to make them available during regular business hours.

Access to judicial records specifically is also governed by Rule 12 of the Texas Rules of Judicial Administration, which confirms that judicial records are open to the public for inspection and copying during regular business hours. Rule 12 works alongside the Public Information Act and addresses the unique aspects of court-generated documents.

Despite this strong presumption of openness, several categories of information are restricted or exempt from disclosure:

  • Identity of abuse and sexual assault victims — protected under various provisions of the Texas Code of Criminal Procedure and Family Code
  • Juvenile case records — generally confidential under the Texas Family Code
  • Trade secrets and proprietary information — exempt under the Public Information Act
  • Records related to undercover law enforcement operations
  • Sealed records — a court may order specific case information sealed for adoptions, nondisclosures, or other sensitive circumstances
  • Records subject to nondisclosure orders — individuals who have obtained an order of nondisclosure may have certain criminal records restricted from public access; the nondisclosure form is available through the Texas courts website

When a statutory exception applies, the records custodian must identify the legal basis for withholding a record. If you believe access was improperly denied, you can seek a ruling from the Texas Attorney General's Open Government Division.

Randall County courts also provide a Judge's Redaction Request form and a Peace Officer Redaction Request form for individuals who want personal information removed from publicly accessible court records, consistent with applicable Texas statutes.
