Texas Court Records
The Texas State Courts Website is designed to help make the state’s court system more transparent and easier to understand. Texas operates with a multi-layered judicial structure, ranging from municipal and justice courts at the local level to the Supreme Court of Texas and the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals at the top.
District Courts are the primary trial courts of general jurisdiction in Texas, hearing felony criminal cases, divorce proceedings, and more. The next level comprises the state’s intermediate appellate courts, which review appeals from District Courts and many county-level courts. Texas’s county-level trial courts also comprise Constitutional County Courts, County Courts at Law, and Statutory Probate Courts. The constitutional county courts have original jurisdiction over the most serious minor offenses.
In Texas, state statutes, including the Public Information Law, guarantee the public’s right to view, inspect, and copy most Texas court records unless otherwise stated by law or court rulings.
